Oils and Fuels

#231 Steam Cylinder Oil: I am no longer handling steam cylinder oil. The reason for this is that the new oils that are available from the major oil companies are all made from a lighter color base stock. These oils are very difficult to see in the Stanley winker.

The Green Velvet oils from Lubrication Specialties in Stearns, Kentucky are now readily available to satisfy our needs with different oils for condensing and non-condensing cars. These oils are formulated from the original dark base stock of the past but with modern additives chosen especially for our application. Additionally they will ship directly to you in many different quantities including 5 gallon pails. Check out their website at: http://www.steamenginelube.com. Click on "Cylinder Oil". I am sure you will be pleased with their products.

#277 Hexane Pilot Fuel:  Supplied in 5 gallon plastic gas cans and available only at swap meets or for pick up here in Ottsville, PA.  Hexane is the cleanest burning pilot fuel you can buy.  It contains less than 1% aromatic hydrocarbons, the stuff that cokes up vaporizers.  Basically it is the same as gasoline, before all the additives are added.  If you have been using Coleman Camp Fuel for your pilot, you will find that this solvent will burn even cleaner.  When touring I used to clean my pilot needle and cross fitting daily with Coleman fuel.  Just as an experiment I went over a year (about 2000 miles) using hexane as my pilot light fuel without cleaning or even removing my pilot needle before it clogged. Contact Us to make arrangements.
